Marcia Dehn-Nix's Blog Posts

Hello Simple Stories friends! Marcia back today with a look at a couple of our newest collections.

Fall is hands down my favorite season, when all the trees are in full color and my favorite pumpkin spice coffee returns. So the Simple Stories Hello Fall collection was one I could not wait to get my hands on. I am not the only one who loves Fall though... so does my dog Satchel! His favorite Fall activity is squirrel chasing. When the days get cooler, he gets to wear this sweater I knit for him and he thinks he is so handsome wearing it, lol. Here is my layout...

I used the 6x6 Hello Fall paper pad along with the 12x12 woodgrain pattern paper from the collection to piece behind this leaf cut file from JustNick Studios. The result is a vivid splash of color. This chipboard squirrel sticker was a must since Satchel loves to chase them so much.

I kept my cluster of embellishments mostly around my photo, adding a journaling spot and lots of other bits & pieces.

The alpha stickers in the Hello Fall collection are fun cursive letters and they work so well to link together.

I so love how this layout turned out!

For my second layout, I used the Simple Stories Happy Haunting Simple Set. It's perfect for scrapping your Halloween photos and works for kids of all ages. This photo is from a neighborhood Halloween party I threw a few years ago.

There are some fun stickers that I used to embellish my page; a banner, spiders, and fun phrases.

Thanks for stopping by today! These Simple Stories products will be coming to your favorite scrapbook stores soon. Watch for them!

Supplies

Hello Simple Stories friends. Marcia back today sharing a couple of fun summer layouts with you.

The first one, Sangria & Summer Serenades, I created with the bright and fun Sunshine & Happiness collection. With Summer in full swing I couldn't help myself! One of my favorite things about summer is just enjoying outdoor cafes where you can people watch and be serenaded by a couple tall, dark and handsome guys. These guys found me enjoying tapas and my first Sangria in Barcelona when I was there on a business trip a few years ago. I wish there had been more time to explore this beautiful city ... hopefully I can return one day.

This chipboard lady looks like she could be people watching in an outdoor cafe too! You can see some of the fussy cut flowers here, a decorative bradz, and some bright yellow enamel dots. I created a little border here to separate my photos from my title and journaling.

I used the sticker alpha sheet and chipboard letters to create my colorful title. I just love these chipboard letters.

The floral paper was just begging to be fussy cut. I arranged the flowers in clusters around my main photo. By using foam adhesive behind some of the flowers I was able to create some dimension.

For my second layout, Hello Sunshine ... This is Paradise, I used the beautiful You Are Here! collection to document a vacation day just relaxing by a fabulous pool.

I added a wood veneer word , stickers, and a few phrases from the washi paper tape down the side to embellish the words already there.

A chipboard frame was the perfect spot for my journaling. I added some palm leaves and a tropical drink that I cut with my Silhouette Cameo. Enamel dots and decorative bradz are my go to embellishments for all my layouts.

Thanks for stopping by today! Look for the Sunshine & Happiness collection and the You Are Here! collection at your local scrapbook store. I know you will love them both!

Supplies

Hello Simple Stories friends. Marcia here today.

With the 4th of July right around the corner, our focus on the blog this week is on the Hero Simple Set.  My first layout features my husband. He is a former Marine and now volunteers his time with fellow police officers from the Minneapolis St Paul Airport Police Department on their Honor Guard. They attend funerals of police officers around the state, but they also volunteer to stand guard over our fallen soldiers coming back from overseas to their final resting place. I used the Bits and Pieces Star Background digital cut file from JustNick Studios.

Instead of backing each of those tiny squares with different pattern papers, I opted to selectively fill portions of the negative space with pattern papers from the Simple Stories Hero Collection Simple Set to mimic our American flag ... with the colors reversed. There are a few embellishments thrown in from other Simple Stories collections as well. Then I added some stars scattered across my layout with modeling paste.

I love the overall look. I didn't want to ruin the star focus, so my journaling was done around the edge of the die cuts.

For my second layout I wanted to show how the Hero Simple Set is not just for your military photos. You can use the pattern papers for vacation photos of patriotic places too. I scrapped a photo from our trip to Pearl Harbor this past winter. To add interest, I added lots of banners with a variety of pattern papers from the Hero Simple Set.

I used the alpha stickers from the collection to create my title which I placed at the bottom of my layout so it wouldn't get lost among the busy banners. More star stickers and enamel dots are scattered across the page very similar to my first layout.

I used my computer to journal directly onto the pattern paper.

Thanks for stopping by today! Look for the Hero Simple Set at your local scrapbook store or favorite online retailer. I know you will love it.
