Cara Vincens's Blog Posts

February is not far off and it’s the season of LOVE. My Valentine is a gorgeous collection to help you showcase your loved ones. It’s Cara here today and I’m not only sharing my layout but 3 of my favourite people (my teen boys aren’t included because they would be so embarrassed to be on a layout with pink hearts, haha!). So grab some photos of your favourite people and scrap along with me!

When I first saw the black and white typed patterned paper, Be Mine, I knew I wanted to use it as my background, even before I chose my photo. I also chose the smaller scaled version from the 6x8 pad to house my title. I layered some of my other favourite papers from the collection and made a strip down the middle to highlight the photo.

I matted the title with another paper from the 6x8 pad and that long xoxoxo sticker (from the mini sticker tablet) was the perfect little crown to top off my title. It actually was a happy accident, because I really loved that sticker, I mean REALLY loved it and I couldn’t find any where to put it. I tried on top of the title block and LOVED the result. It added a softness that really gelled with the rest of the layout.

I did not hold back on the embellishments and I scattered clusters through out the page. I fussy cut that red doily from the 2x2 elements and it fit perfectly under the curve of the ‘love you more’ banner. I added a few trios of hearts through out the page. I LOVE putting hearts on my pages in general, but here I may or may not have got a little crazy!

I mixed up the colour, texture and shapes of the hearts, there is such a variety in this collection. There are stickers and die cuts and there are stitched hearts, candy hearts and these fun, thinner hearts that almost look like rabbit ears.

I LOVE butterflies so if there is even one butterfly in a collection, I will use it! The ‘xoxo’ and ‘loved’ ticket die cut looked a little bare without this little guy, so it’s perfect. There is also one on that long sticker from before.

Hope you have fun scrapping your favourite people!

Happy NEW YEAR!! What better way can you think of to start off a new year and a new decade than with a bit of crafting! And better yet, scrapbooking! It’s Cara here today and I am so excited to get this year started, it’s going to be a year FULL of paper crafting.

I absolutely adore the Crafty Girl collection and I was already designing this layout in my head as I went through my box of goodies. I had barely shut the door on the mailman and I was running to my desk, excited to play with it all. Crafting has always been my favourite and these are my happy colours.

I recently went to a planner event in the Netherlands so I printed a few of my favourite photos for this layout. The chair and decorations at the venue actually matched the Crafty Girl collection! It’s like they knew ;) I trimmed the photos ever so slightly so that I could line the three of them up across the page, and still be able to have some of that pretty blue paper peeking out.

Lining the photos up left me lots of room to add all the stickers and die cuts I wanted (which was a lot!).

It’s rare when I love EVERYTHING in a collection, but this line is so amazing, every last sticker gets me giddy with excitement. I was happy to have planner event photos to help me narrow down my choices of what embellishments to use. I simply chose all planner related things and I’m saving the rest for other projects. I started with the layers of patterned paper and then that chipboard CREATE was the easiest title.

The glitter card was a fun call back to an event where I met a lot of these women for the first time. There was red glitter everywhere and it became an inside joke. I may or may not have squealed when I first saw this card ;)

One of my favourite die cuts is that little planner! I added the dates, the ‘planner girl’ sticker and a couple of teeny flowers to give it that planner addict touch.

Again, Happy New Year! I hope that you are able to carve a little crafty time into your day today!

Hi, it’s Cara here today! I hope you are having a wonderful, festive December so far. I recently went to London and the Christmas decorations were incredible! I've never seen anything like it, I was amazed by the attention to detail and a surprise was waiting for me around every corner. I wanted my layout to showcase how beautiful it all was. The Winter Farmhouse collection not only matched my favourite London photos, but really highlighted them and made my photos stand out. I chose festive papers with a Christmas feel and I love how it all turned out.

With so many lovely papers to choose from, I decided to go with lots of layers so that I could use as many of them as possible. I used the golden floral paper aptly named Warm and Cosy as my main background because it drew out the gold tones of the lights and decorations in my photos. I love having a peek of pattern at the edges of my pages, so I trimmed down the yellow paper to let a bit of the dark Falling Snow paper show on two sides.

Hello Winter and the backside of the 4x6 elements paper matted my photos and I used both sides of Feeling Frosty for the backdrop for the title.

Little label die cuts from the Journal Bits and Pieces were the perfect spots to add the locations of each photo and a larger label was the perfect size for my journaling.

I sprinkled a mix of stickers, die cuts, and cardstock stickers around the page as embellishments and then I topped the whole thing off with some gems and glitter.

Have you scrapbooked the Christmas lights in your town yet? What other festive decorations have you scrapped?
